Iupac of glycerol

Can some one explain the naming  of glycerol ...

Why is it propane-1,2,3-triol
and not propan-1,2,3-triol? I was always taught alcohols to follow the pattern ,ethanol, ethan-1,2 diol, ethan-1,1-diol, ethan-1,1,1-triol, propan-1-ol, propan-1,2-diol etc.
