What does it mean when a reagent says "2 eq"
« on: February 20, 2021, 10:37:57 PM »
Hi everyone, this is my first time using the forum so apologies for any mistakes. I'm working on some practice problems and in the reagents, it says "2 eq. LDA, Bul" and I have no idea what the "2 eq" means. I've tried googling it and it seems to be a quantity? Sorry if this is a really silly question - this is the first time this notation is being used in our class.

Read the procedure in the publication carefully, not just the synthesis diagram.

Two equivalents.

Doubtful there is a publication given if it is just a practice problem.

Explanations to abbreviations and conventional symbols are included in the textbooks only once. If someone does not read the manual carefully, he or she can learn it by reading at least one patent or publication on chemical syntheses. I suppose the Professor just wanted to check if the students read the textbook carefully.

In the diagrams instead of mol equiv. we use eq. (1 eq. is omitted so BuI means 1 eq. of n-butyl iodide) and then excerpt from the published procedure.
