Reaction between Hydrochloric Acid and Ethanol
« on: April 05, 2021, 01:29:36 PM »
I'm wondering whether or not Hydrochloric Acid would react with Ethanol as a neutralization reaction. I read that ethanol in an aqueous solution can be a slight base, so could it neutralize an acid? Would they react to form a salt and water?

It is not a neutralization, its kind of substitution of OH to Cl or elimination of water. It is not the classic ester reaction.. But the result can be ethyl chloride or ethylen
