How to tell if something is AQUEOUS?
« on: May 06, 2021, 03:48:25 PM »
Hello everyone, sorry for bad English as I reside in Japan. My question is, what is "aqueous" and how do I tell if a product is to be aqueous? I have a homework question such as; "HC2H3O2(aq)+Ni(OH)2(aq)→" however, I do not know what state the products will be. Thank you so much for your help, it is very appreciated.

"Aqueous" means - dissolved in water.

HC2H3O2 can be acetic acid, methyl formate or glycolaldehyde. Product can be aqueous (aq) if it is soluble in water, it can precitipate as solid (s) or liquid (l) from solution if is insoluble or even evaporate (g - gas).
