Acid or basic catalysis
« on: May 16, 2021, 11:16:39 AM »
Hi

Could someone please tell me what kind of catalysis is (so if it is specific/general acid catalysis or specific/general base catalysis):

Aal1
Aac2
Bal2

Thankss :)

1. No idea what these are.

Ah sorry thanks for letting me know the policy :)

This question is surrounding the topic of acids and bases - Specific acid catalysis, General acid catalysis, Specific Base catalysis and General Base catalysis

So Aal1, Aac2, Bal2 are types of ester hydrolysis

Aal1 - a type of ester hydrolysis which is acid catalyzed, alkyl-oxygen cleavage and the rate determining step is unimolecular
Aac2 - a type of ester hydrolysis which is acid catalyzed, acyl-oxygen cleavage and the rate determining step is bimolecular
Bal2 - a type of ester hydrolysis which is basic catalyzed, alkyl-oxygen cleavage and the rate determining step is bimolecular

So my view is that:
Aal1 could be specific acid catalysis
Aac2 could be specific acid catalysis
Bal2 could be general acid catalysis

Is this correct anyone? :) thanks

Thanks for this :) but would Aal1 be specific acid catalysis, Aac2  be specific acid catalysis and Bal2  be general acid catalysis?
