Have I balanced this reaction correctly?
« on: July 07, 2021, 04:31:57 PM »
I need to write the balanced reaction between aqua regia (HNO3 + 3HCl) with gold (Au), with the gold oxidizing to 3+ ions.

Based on what I've read online the reaction should go like:

3HNO3 + 4HCl + Au → 3NO2 + 3H2O + HAuCl4

Is this reaction balanced correctly? If not, how should it be balanced?

How do you determine whether a reaction is balanced?
