Decanting a liquid

I looked this up online and I am finding that when you decant a liquid, you are pouring off liquid from one container into another. Is this correct in terms of chemistry?

Basically. Usually the purpose is to separate the liquid from a solid which is at the bottom of the container.

as long as you don't loose the solid with the eluting liquid it is not a problem
just take care during sepatation
