thermometer out of the flask.
« on: October 04, 2021, 03:27:42 PM »

Hello, I have a cheap hot mantle with a stirrer, the temperature is regulated with an incorporated thermometer, so you measure the temp of where the thermometer is, not the mantle temperature. I have seen people putting the thermometer out of the flask, trap it between the hot mantle and flask...

It would be great if I can do this because I need the thermometer inlet for adding argon and other more reasons.

But I don't know how well this could measure the temperature of the solution. It can not go hotter than estimated.

So maybe is not a good idea.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR *delete me*

It seems you need a flask with one more inlet?

Sorry for my long time replying, I don't because that means more leaks possibilities, especially with the thermometer innlet. I just need to know if it's possible to do it this way.

It sounds really non-good, why are you afraid if leaks, this is standard equipment in any lab, it does not leak.

because I will perform a high vacuum on it. 2 inlets vs 3 is good. Do you say that putting the thermometer between mantle and glass is nongood?

I think the thermometer will give you a to high reading that way. I still think it should be possible to get a good vacuum with 3 inlets. I have used a IR-gun to measure temp. of reaction flasks, this could be an option.
