Hey!
I need help regarding electrochemistry. I will post my questions down below and feel free to reach out to me if you have an answer to any of my questions.
1. Do all electrolytic cells have inert electrodes? If not, then could you please provide an example?
2. When does the Epotential of a cell mean? When I calculate it what does that tell me?
My Guess: Tells how much voltage a cell needs to run.
3. When I find the Epotential of an ELECTROLYTIC CELL, why does it say the minimum voltage required is positive xyz.
For Example: SnCl = Sn2+ + Cl2
Esn = -0.14V <- Reduction, Oxidizing Agent, Cathode, -ve electrode
Ecl = 1.36V <- Oxidation, Reducing Agent, Anode, +ve electrode
Ecell = Ecathode - Eanode
= -0.14 - 1.36
= -1.50V
Why does it say it needs 1.50Volts to get the cell to run instead of -1.50V
