Resonance structure
« on: November 03, 2021, 10:34:36 AM »
I'm having problems with the resonance structure of this compound. My doubt is I have to split the compound in H+ and phenol and after making the resonance structure or do I do the resonance with the entire compound?
This is the compound

And this is what I tried to do, it's that right?

Regarding your question, if you remove a proton, it is a separate case.  As a general practice, I like to add lone pairs onto heteroatoms.  When drawing Lewis structures involving C, N, O, and F, you should always bear in mind the octet rule and conservation of charge.  I would highlight the former with respect to your drawings.
