Condensing 2 Substances in the presence of a 3rd substance.
« on: November 19, 2021, 10:43:51 AM »
Hello guys!

I'm very new to chemistry. I decided to try and execute a small project and I need some help. Sorry if this is a stupid question but here it goes.

The instructions say to condense 2 substances together in the presence of another substance. What does this imply exactly? Mixing the 3 substances together and heating them up and condensing the resulting vapor into a liquid?

No, rather mixing them, probably in a solvent, maybe heat. It would be a lot easier if you could post the reaction scheme.

x solution is condensed with y solution in presence of sodamide, yielding x solution and an unwanted isomeric nitrile in approximately equal amounts. The isomers are separated and the former is subjected to Grignard addition with ethyl magnesium bromide. Subsequent hydrolysis in the presence of hydrochloric acid yields s solution.

these are all the instructions i actually have
i dont know how to find the reaction scheme

You need a lot of skills in chemistry to do this and equipment, further methadone  is a controlled substance and these are not discussed at this forum.
