Making Cellulose DiAcetate from cellulose powder?
« on: November 22, 2021, 08:53:44 AM »
I'm trying to make some products out of cellulose diacetate (stuff used for sunglasses frames).
From videos online it looks like a cellulose material is broken down in acetic acid and then dried. It can be made into a gel like paste with addition  of acetone.  I'm wondering if cellulose powder that is marketed as a food additive is ok to use for this?

Is cellulose acetate or diacetate powder something that can be bought without me having to go through the process of mixing cellulose and acetic acid?

Anyone have any chemical suppliers that can sell something like this in small batches? I've found only one place but it sells in industrial quantities.
