Ink stain removal from shirt
« on: January 26, 2023, 11:09:22 AM »
Have a dried ink stain on a white shirt that I am having trouble removing. From a chemical standpoint, is this possible to remove or is it permanent? Any ideas? Thx.

Your guess is as good as ours - there is way too many possible formulations of ink and the shirt fabric to make any serious predictions. One could probably try to do some exact analysis of the case - but it will cost many times more than the shirt is worth (unless it is the one in which Robespierre was decapitated ;) )

Best approach that can be tried is to use one of the ready stain removal products. They typically contain some oxidizing agent that will destroy the chromophore - assuming it is an organic one.

I assume you've tried bleach?
