Quality Sample can Impact on Multiplicity?
« on: October 27, 2023, 08:51:09 PM »
Hello, I did one reaction but the product appears to be very insoluble in organic solvents.
I did one sample to send to NMR, the quality of the signal is very poor and I coulnd't even make a ¹³C spectrum because the poor quality

The problem is, I would see duplets, but I only see thin singlets, is it possible that the quality is so poor that I can't see the real multiplicty? I did one COSY and I saw correlations between these singlets, so I think is very strange one singlet be coupled with other singlet with J3.

What do you guys think?

Have you tried DMSO-d6? You can heat the sample too.

Hello, I tried in DMSO, the signal became thinner, but it also contains a singlet, I aspected to see a doublet, so I don't know if I didn't get my product or if It can be because of the sample quality impact on the multiplicity.

Have you ever heard something about it?

If the lines were unusually broad, a doublet would give the appearance of being a broad singlet.  That might happen if there were a paramagnetic ion present.  This is just a conjecture.

Can you show us what you did, the chemistry?
