Reactions Under Nitrogen Purging

Please, i need an expert to describe the reaction set under nitrogen purging, i would be glad if pictures could be used to explain this set up procedure.
I have attached image of a set up, i am not sure if the this set up arrangement is correct. Please expert , i need your comments.

Why do you want N2? Its iron and acid? Usually we use N2 to exclude the gases in air that can react with our reagents, e.g. oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapour

I guess he want to develop oxygen free hydrogen, by using iron and HCl.
But the Reflux makes also no sense.

OK, maybe he can just let the reaction run for a few minutes drive the air out.
