IKA magnet stirrer hotplate question

Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this.
I bought a used (very good looking condition) IKA RH Basic and put 80ml water in a 1000ml beaker.
Then I turned on the heat to 100 and after 15 minutes it still wasn't cooking.
Then I put it on 300 and after 30 minutes it finally started cooking.
Is this normal behavior and do I need to be more patient or is there something wrong with it?

Is it controlled by a Thermometer sitting in the liquid? Or is it a wheel as Controller as on a heatingplate in a Kitchen.
Check the plug.

At 600 W it should be definitely capable of making 80 g of water boil much faster (with no losses and assuming ΔT of 80°C below 1 minute, no way it is possible, but serves as a reference), but as Hunter suggested, a lot depends on what the "100 °C" setting means.

My experience with IKA equipment is that it is basically fine stuff, but the temperature settings are not accurate.

I have not added a thermometer to the liquid but this is possible with this IKA.
The 100 mark means 100C but this is a little of.
Nonetheless I think it should be possible to heat it up much quicker.

What do you suggest for heating something up fast? Just turn the knob to max and then keep watching and turn the knob down at a specific temperature or just let the heater do it's thing and have patience?

One thing I did was to put a dish with some oil onto the hot plate, with a thermometer in the oil.  I then tried to calibrate the settings against the final temperature.  It was not particularly accurate, but I could have worked at little harder at it.
