« on: November 22, 2024, 02:53:22 AM »
C8H8O3 + CaH2 :rarrow:

I have tried solving it myself but what i get is C8H8O3 + CaH2 :rarrow: C8H10O3 + Ca(OH)2 + H2

But I then cannot balance it. Can you please help me? This is for a research project

Thanks all!

First question what is C8H8O3 and C8H10O3.
Calciumhydride is a reducer and add hydrogen to the molecule.I think in the equation water is missing, if we reduce an aldehyde. Do we?

Normal R-CHO + H- => RCH2O-
This reacts with H2O
RCH2O- + H2O => RCH2OH + OH-.
