Hello,

We are currently using a chemical that is low purity and creates a lot of salt as precipitate. Currently the method used for separation is centrifuging the material and then filtering through 1 or 2 um filter. However, the cost of a centrifuge is very large and quite the investment. The material is also allowed to sit for 1 to 2 days for better separation.

What alternative methods are there for separating solids from a liquid besides centrifugation?

Offhand, I cannot think of one.  Have you looked at used centrifuges?  They are quite a bit less expensive.

Have you tried filtering aid like Celite?

If you have not worked with Celite before, pack it down a bit before you filter.

You should also mix the liquid first with some Celite, then filter through a plug of Celite
