I guess you could do that too. Graphite is just way cheap though.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

lol, but making gold wire from gold dust is so much more complicated then walking over to the hardware store and asking them to ship you some graphite electrodes. \Radio Shack should be able to get them for you, or at least tell you where to go.

Aww but that means I dont get to smelt gold  :-\
Somone might ask why you do chemistry if you can just go to the store and buy a pound of the stuff you just made for two bucks, I want to smelt gold for the sake of smelting gold.

i think electrodes should fall under "physical chemistry"
"Say you're in a [chemical] plant and there's a snake on the floor. What are you going to do? Call a consultant? Get a meeting together to talk about which color is the snake? Employees should do one thing: walk over there and you step on the friggin snake." - Jean-Pierre Garnier, CEO of Glaxosmithkline, June 2006
