Heck Reaction
« on: November 07, 2004, 01:21:53 AM »
I have to write a paper about Heck reaction-propose a mechanism. It's kinda hard to find the material. Does anyone know this reaction? Is anyone familiar with this?

Thanks so much

The Heck reaction is a very popular palladium catalyzed reaction.  There is a ton of primary literature out there.

A good books to look at would be "Palladium in Heterocyclic Chemistry" by Jack Li and Gordon Gribble (Pergamon, 2000) and "Transition Metals in the Synthesis of Complex Organic Molecules" by Louis Hegedus (University Science Books, 1999).  Both books discuss the mechanism.

Here are some primary references as well:

Perhaps Mitch could put up the mechanism on our name reactions page.   :)

Thanks Movies.

I have to turn the paper this Friday. I better get started soon. Honestly I have no clue about this stuff. Maybe chemistry is too hard for me to comprehend. I will look for those ref. Thanks again.

Palladium reactions are certainly daunting at first, but in reality most of them are pretty much the same.  If you have more specific questions, post them here and we will try to help.
