Suggestion Ions for the salt bridge!
« on: November 06, 2006, 07:15:14 PM »
hey, i am doing a question in my study guide where i have a voltaic cell with a Zn electrode and a CO electrode, the question is asking me to suggest a pair of ions that would be good for the salt bridge? How do i do this? and how would i tell what to put for any other pair of electrodes!?

thanks

for the salt bridge consider an unreactive electrolyte (eg. KNO3)

What is your electrolyte? That is usually the first choice for a salt bridge. (e.g. if your electrodes are in contact with diluted perchloric or sulfuric acid, you'd use that in the salt bridge as well)
Else you can use an easily dissoluted and inert salt like jubba said.

PS. CO-electrode?? What do you mean?
