Toxicity of tantalum/tantalum compounds
« on: November 19, 2004, 07:52:40 PM »
I got some tantalum from capacitors and I'm wondering if its compounds are toxic. I cant seem to find much about it online. I've created some tantalum hydroxide during electrolysis I was doing to test its potential use as an electrode. I know the metal itself is used in implants, but I dont know anything about its compounds.

I have some tantalum on my desk. I don't think it is toxic to any great extent.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

First, high quality tantalum compounds are not toxic at all. I've been dealing with them for quite a long time, if they are a little bit toxic, I will notice.

Second, I strongly suggest you to order tantalum compounds, and any other chemical materials, from trustworthy suppliers, for the good of your business and health.

Below is a supplier I used to deal with, for your reference.
