Quick Nomenclature Question
« on: December 05, 2006, 02:33:05 PM »
In an example, what would the IUPAC name be for a CH2Br- group?
Is that, methylbromine?

Do you mean -CH2-Br? Mmm, I'm not sure, but methylbromine sounds too reasonable to be a IUPAC name.  ;)

I think you should simply name them seperately, with the halogen with a number before (i.e. 4-bromo).

If the CH2Br is attached to something that is not part of the chain it is called "bromomethyl". So for example Ph-CH2-Br is called bromomethylbenzene.
