but to create esters don't you need a carboxylic acid and an alcohol  ??? ? and about the picture attached to my previous post it's what i think is the product when my hypothetical monomer polymerizes but it does not match the polymer that i attached earlier  :-\

Maybe lets start from the beginning.  Given the information you know about esterification, what molecules would you react to form the molecule pictured below?

umm OHCH2CH2C=O and CH2Ch2COOH? but im not sure where the middle oxygen goes  :-X :-[

Sorry but no.

Since you know the basic process of esterification, trying adding the H2O that was lost in the formation of that compound. Don't think in terms of the whole molecule, just look at functional groups. Hint: The 2 resulting molecules will look identical.
