but to create esters don't you need a carboxylic acid and an alcohol  ? and about the picture attached to my previous post it's what i think is the product when my hypothetical monomer polymerizes but it does not match the polymer that i attached earlier

Sorry but no.

Since you know the basic process of esterification, trying adding the H₂O that was lost in the formation of that compound. Don't think in terms of the whole molecule, just look at functional groups. Hint: The 2 resulting molecules will look identical.
