« on: January 06, 2007, 03:46:02 AM »
Hi Everyone.
my question is:
how i can correct the value of pH taken from the pH meter when the measurement is done in ethanol solution.

thank you very much.

In general - you can't. IMHO at best you can add a note to your lab report that pH recorded is what was shown by the pH meter when using such-and-such electrode.

pH meter measures potential of the pH electrode. This potential depends on the H+ activity, but we know what the dependence means only for water solutions.

hi all
thank you very much for your reply.
in fact what i am looking for is mentioned in a research paper but unfortuantely i did found that paper.
the paper is :
G:Douheret .Bull >Soc.Chim.Fr.,1412(1967).
this paper contains a method of pH correction if the next measurements accomplished in ethanol.
I shall be very gratefull if you can help me finding this paper or the equation that i have to use in order to correct the PH values taken from the pH meter before makeing the next absorbtion measurements.
thank you very much
