HCOOH/C2H5NH2
« on: January 11, 2007, 06:08:17 AM »
hi,

i will be happy if somebody helps me to correct my answers :

we have , Pka(HCOOH/HCOO-) = 3.8,Pka(C2H5NH4+/C2H5NH2)= 10.7 .

a)can HCOOH and C2H5NH2 be the dominating chimical types at the same time ?
My answer : No,because there is no intersection between their intervals of predominance .

b) deduce the reaction that will happen when we put both of HCOOH and C2H5NH2 in the same watter.
my answer : C2H5NH2 + HCOOH -> (HCOO-) + (C2H5NH4+)

thanks in advance

What do you mean by term; "at the same time"?

i mean that we put HCOOH and C2H5NH2 together in some water ."at the same time" doesn't have a great importance ,you can omit it .

When you mix in equimolar ratio the formic acid and the ethylamine in water, the dominating forms will be HCOO- and C2H5NH3+.
