Percent of water by mass
« on: November 30, 2004, 10:03:44 PM »
Cobalt (II) chloride hexahydrate has the formula CoCl2 multiplied by 6H2O...What is the percent water by weight in this hydrate?

Could someone show me how to work this problem.  The teacher gave us the answer but didn't show us how to get it.

THANKS!!! ;D

That's the point, right  :jester:

Lets say you had 1 gram of the compound. How much water is in the 1 gram.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

Calculate molecular weihgt of hydrate. It contains 6 water molecule (6x18 grams).
I think calculation of mass percentage is straighforward
