KD for extractions?
« on: February 12, 2007, 12:59:26 PM »
Hello, Im looking for anyone that has a clue about what this means. Im currently doing extractions so its a pretty important part in understanding how to figure out how much solute has transfered to what solvent. That  much I know I just dont know how to put it into practice. There 2 forms of the KD formula that I know. The first is KD = [A] solvent 1
                                                           [A] solvent 2

The 2nd and the one that I think I need to understand is KD = W1/V1
                                                                                                      W2/V1

Basically, I need to use one of those formulas to find out how much sovent would transfer from one solution to the other when performing an extraction. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
