NaHCO3 + AgNO3 ?
« on: March 21, 2007, 07:22:56 PM »
Hi, I am trying to figure out what products formed in this reaction, but I don't seem to have it right (it's impossible to balance).  Where did I make my error?

NaHCO3 (aq)  +  AgNO3  (aq)  -> NaNO3 (aq)  + AgOH (s)  +  H2O (l)  +  CO2 (g)

No need for water. But you better do net ionic.

I'm not sure what you mean, but is this a step in the right direction?

2 AgNO3  +  2 NaHCO3  ->  2 Ag +  2 NO3 +  2 Na +  2 HCO3  ->  2 NaNO3 +  2 AgCO3 + H2

H2(g) ?!
AgCO3  ?!

Remove water from the reaction products in your first reaction and it will balance.

Do you know what net ionic reaction is?
