Solubility-Intermolecular forces
« on: March 25, 2007, 06:13:37 PM »
Can anyone explain these observations in terms of intermolecular forces?
Ethyl acetate and water in a 1:1 proportion do not mix.
Ethyl acetate, water, and isopropyl alcohol is a 1:1:1 proportion form a homogeneous solution.

I know solubility has something to do with the strength of bonds (breaking them up), but I don't see why adding isopropyl alcohol will forum a homogenous solution

can isopropyl alcohol mix with ethyl acetate and/or water?
