About metals
« on: March 25, 2007, 05:36:53 AM »
Hi, I'm having oral mockexams, and  my theme is metals. I have a problem, because I can't think of anything more to talk about. So far I've noted:

-Historical importance
-2/3 of the elements are metals, and we can find them in the left part in the periodical system
-Metal bondings, how they work.
-Metals are good electrical conductors, and good heat conductors.
-Alloys, what they are and why we make them.
-Corrosion
-Heavy metals, what they are and what damage they can do to environments

Anyone else got some brilliant ideas? ;)

How about some more general physical and chemical properties of metals?  Are they brittle or maleable?  Do they tend to gain electrons in reactions or lose them?  What kind of compounds to they form?

But other than that, you see to have everything pretty well covered.

Just for the record, my teacher said I did good, but I should have mentioned how metals reacts with acids.
