2-chlorohexadecanal to 2-hexadecenal
« on: December 14, 2004, 07:00:38 PM »
i am a medical doctor and very much lack detailed chemistry knowledge. in my work however i have run into a problem wherein i need to synthesize deuterated 2-hexadecenal. Does anybody know of an easy way of synthesizing this compound. Also i already have the compound 2-chlorohexadecanal available with me, hence if there's a way to change 2-chlorohexdecanal to 2-hexadecenal that would work too. thanks

This is simple elimination of HClwith use of strong base but the method can produce mixture of two alkenes (without deuterium) Introducing deuterium, especially in specific position is a quite hard task.
