Help how do I tell what's on my MALDI-TOF spec?
« on: April 12, 2007, 05:24:11 PM »
I've got peaks of 867.9 and 1079.1 on the MALDI-TOF spec using CHCA as a matrix, mass gate 700Da and range >5000Da - is there supposed to be a database that we can look up what these two peaks could be?

All I know so far is that they represent some kind of peptide... new to this so would appreciate a helping hand, thanks!!  8)

As far as I know, you either know the mass of what you were trying to make, or you guess as to what it could be.  I'm a synthetic chemist doing nothing at all with peptides, though, so probably no help here.  You might try the NCBI site or Expasy, though?

Hi!

The peaks you have correlates to different charge states of the peptides you see, m/z. The database you can look them up in is Protein proscpetor  http://prospector.ucsf.edu/. Use the MS-Fit link to search your m/z. I dont think you will get any hit because there need to be more m/z to identify the protein. 2 peptides is not enought. Do you have access to electrospray MS, then you could sequnesing them also!
