Purification of organic compound by solvent extraction. Pleae *delete me*!?

How do I purify an organic compound by solvent extraction and what features dictate the choice of organic solvent phase in such an extraction?

Selectivity and recovery of the extraction will obviously be factors...but I'm not sure what else. Please *delete me*
