Iodination of salicaldehyde mechanism
« on: May 30, 2007, 02:44:47 PM »
What will this reaction mechanism look like? McMurry's book tells me that iodine isn't very reactive with benzene. We've got OH group, which activates meta and para positions so I guess that makes it easier for the reaction to occur. But why do we need to add NaOH & NaHCO3 before introducing I2 in KI?
