Circle least Basic N
« on: May 18, 2007, 02:14:48 AM »
Hi,

The question was asking for the most basic N, and I know that it is CH2NH2 because the lone pair on the N is in  an sp3 orbital , which has "less" s character.

Then, I'm just curious now...and I want to know the least basic N. So would I look for the opposite trend of most basic...as in now looking at the one that has the MOSt s character? I drew a diagram and the least basic is the N drawn in red, because it is sp2..and its on the ring with least double bonds. am I correct?  :P

thanks!

Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

As an aside, try using the free Isis/draw to draw your structures, which can then be exported as jpg and uploaded, so they are much clearer to everyone reading!
