Infra Red Spectroscopy

(1/1)

zain:
Hey guys,
I've got bit of a blunt and straight forward question.
I've got an exam tommorow which is about Carbon and also the 3 main types of spectroscopy.
The main thing i need to know is towards the left of an IR spectrum, how would u identify OH groups in different types (ketone, carboxylic acid etc). I know that an alcohol group is a broad peak at around 1800cm-1. But if you could please tell me any other typical peaks that are found in IR spectrums?..
Also my apologies... I don't know NMR very well either so this might go a bit off topic.
Any help is appreciated... as I have little time.
Many Thanks, Zain

Here is a useful site with a list of common peaks in IR spectra:

OH is in amongst 3100cm-1 - 3600cm-1 along with a few other possibilities and C=O around 1700
