Heating zinc sulphate

(1/1)

Michael:
Hi, i need some help on this question....

What are the effects of heating zinc sulphate.

Form what i have researched i could only gather that zinc oxide is produced.

I need an equation and to know if any colour changes take place.

Thanks in advance.

Donaldson Tan:
2ZnSO4 => 2ZnO + 2SO2 + O2

Zinc Oxide produced is yellow when hot, white when cool. The colour change is due to different electronic configuration of the zinc ion at different temperature.

AWK:
Zinc sulfate thermally decomposes in the range 600 to 740 C. Depending on temperature some amounts of SO3 can be expected.
