A Question...
« on: June 18, 2007, 09:02:37 PM »
Hi guys. My name is Stefan and Im currently studying Pharmaceutical and Biological Chemistry at York University in Toronto, Canada. Im graduating in 2 years, but before I do I hope to obtain some experience in the work field.  Im looking for an internship or voluntary work and was wondering how I can put together a PROPER resume for that sort of thing. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Like i feel i dont have enough to write about what i can do. All i know is what i learned in the labs which is basic stuff like NMR, IR,etc. What else can i put down? It would be great if i can see a sample cv too. Thanks!

If you want research experience, then you're going to want to look into NSERC USRAs (http://www.nserc.gc.ca/sf_e.asp?nav=sfnav&lbi=1a).  Ask any professor that does research you are interested in, they will have heard of these.  These are how many undergraduate chemists get research experience in Canada.

A second possibility are NSERC Industrial Undergraduate Research Awards...basically the same as a USRA except that instead of working for a prof, you work for a company.  Details at http://www.nserc.ca/sf_e.asp?nav=sfnav&lbi=1b.

If you're just looking for a position/job with a company, then the resume is the way to go.  I'm not really familiar with this myself, I'm just laying out a couple more options for you :)
