I was wondering if it is dangerous to be breathing in air from a heated copper tube. The tube is plated in chrome on the outside and I'm not sure about the inside.

It seems like there could be some potentially dangerous fumes coming from the copper or chrome plating, but I don't know very much about chemistry so I cannot make a reasonable judgment on my own.

If it is working at low temperatures (ie not heated to 1000 deg) it is perfectly safe, both chromium and copper are relatively resistant chemically and they won't produce any fumes. If the temperature gets high enough everything can start to vaporize, but we are talking red hot or white hot here.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to take the risk. I'm not sure how hot it would be getting (I'd assume about the temperature of a torch lighter).
