Gaseous Electrons
« on: August 03, 2007, 04:07:23 AM »
How on earth can you find out how many unpaired electrons are present in gaseous Co3+ ion in its ground state?

I have tried applying molecular orbital theory and atomic orbital theory but they don't work for me.

How many electrons should cobalt have?
How many electrons will Co3+ have?
Can you write the electron configuration of Co3+ using atomic orbital theory and the aufbau principle?
