I like the Hegedus book Transition Metals in the Synthesis of Complex Organic Molecules, but it's more of an organic chemists guide to inorganic chemistry, so maybe not the best for your purposes.
I used the Shriver & Atkins book when I took inorganic. It's good, but I don't know that it is really the best. I know I had some problems with it.
The Crabtree book The Organometallic Chemistry of the Transition Metals is great, but maybe to advanced for a first-timer.
