reaction of an alkyne exercise
« on: September 07, 2007, 05:38:32 PM »
What is the product of the reaction of an alkyne with NaNH2, NH3, then CH3I?

Thank you very much.

What kind of alkyne? I can see this perhaps going two ways, depending on whether you have an internal or terminal alkyne.

OK then,

With reguard to sodium amide the alkyne will behave like an acid forming a sodium acetylide and ammonia.

Sodium acetylides will react with primary RX to form R substituted alkynes.
