Enzyme and Substrate
« on: September 19, 2007, 09:49:24 AM »
For the enzyme glucose 6-phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.9), the following reaction is catalyzed:

D-glucose 6-phosphate + H2O --> D-glucose + phosphate

Is D-glucose 6-phosphate the only substrate that can be catalyzed by this phosphatase to yield D-glucose, or can other substrates be involved?

Thank you.

Metabolic enzymes are generally very specific and act on only one substrate.
