hi every1. im doin AS level chemistry and im 2 weeks into it and im just doing some extra work on these questions and i cant find the answer of 1 in my notes  for 'What is the charge on each ion in magnesium nitride?'

please will someone tell me how to work it out?

so far i have:

nitrogen is 1s(2) 2s(2) 2p(3)

and magnesium is 1s(2) 2s(2) 2p(6) 3s(2)

so i know that as ions they are:
N= [1s(2) 2s(2) 2p(6)] -3

and Mg= [1s(2) 2s(2) 2p(6)] +2

(i think)

so from this how do i work out the charge on each ion in magnesium nitride??

ill really appreciate any replys! thanks alot for reading.

Looks to me like you already did.
