a question about vapor pressure
« on: September 28, 2007, 10:28:18 AM »
Now I have another question about vapor pressure.
Suppose in a closed container, we have a liquid A and a gas B.
Then some portion of A vaporizes ... and continues to vaporize ... and continues to vaporize ... until the dynamic equilibrium is reached.
So then what of the following is true ?

(1) gas pressure in the container  =  vapor pressure of substance A at that temperature
(and "gas pressure in the container" here equals "partial pressure of gas B" and "partial pressure of the vaporized portion of A"

(2) partial pressure of the vaporized portion of A  =  vapor pressure of substance A at that temperature

Thank you.
