Grams Yielded
« on: October 08, 2007, 08:17:28 AM »
I am sure that this will be easy for some of you, but I am having a hard time finding the relation between Moles, Avagadro's Number, etc to find the solution to the following question:

"When 125.0g of a compound of C and O is decomposed it yields 53.6g of C. How many grams of O does it yield?"

I am sure its not as simple as subtracting the grams of C from the total grams of the compound.   Thanks for the *delete me*!

And you are wrong :)

It is one of the real carbon oxides, try to find its formula to be sure.

This is not the case for all coupounds (subtracting know yield from total amount).  What are the steps I would need to take to find this value for another compound?  For example:  Given 100g of C12H22O11, how many grams of H?

What is the molecular weight of C12H22O11, what is the percentage by weight of H?

100 g * that number.
