Types of Reaction Labs
« on: October 09, 2007, 05:42:59 PM »
Lab question asks: One of the products of reaction one is sodium chloride which is soluble in water. Knowing that and keeping in mind what the reactants where, deduce the name of the other product

we carried out a lab 1st test was to pour Sodium Sulphate and barium chloride into 1 test tube. Results were Solution turn to a cloudy white opaque liquid.

would anyone care to explain what the heck the question is trying to ask me.

Many thanks !

EDIT on the sodium. im sorry it's sodium sulphate that mixed with barium chloride

Make sure these are actually what you put into the test tube.  Are you sure they were both chlorides?

The question is asking you about the precipitation reaction that had to have occurred for cloudiness to form.

A precipitation reaction wouldn't happen with two chlorides.

Here's "what the heck the question is asking":

So if you put in Sodium Sulphate and Barium Chloride
and got out Sodium Chloride and something else

What might that something else be?
