Styrene Catione polymerization - catalyst issue
« on: October 15, 2007, 12:33:04 PM »
Does the polymerization occur as shown:?

1) SnCl4 + Cl-(CH2)2-Cl → [SnCl4∙Cl-(CH2)2-Cl] ↔ +CH2-CH2-Cl + [SnCl5]-

2)

I know that the ethylene chloride is the cocatalyst, but shouldn't the cathalyst reaction give a H+ somehow? If so, the rest is clearly incorect ;)

Thanks in advance
