Calculate the maximum number of moles and mass of iodic acid that can form when 632 g iodine trichloride reacts with 112.4g water.
I'm pretty sure this is a limiting reactant problem so it's not that bad.
But I can't balance this:
ICl3 + H20 ------> ICl + HIO3 + HCl
What mass of the excess reactant remains? g
What is the reactant? HCl or ICl3
UPDATE:
ok. now i can balance it.
2 ICl3 + 3 H2O --------> 1 ICl + 1 HIO3 + 5 HCl
yay!. i'm a big kid now. (Huggies theme
) anyhoo, what do i do after this? Basically, what "excess reactant" are they talking about?
P.S. - Is there any really good website that lists all the polyatomic ions (not just the common ones) or a website that can quiz me on 'em?
